Tomorrow starts our Rockford Elite June Camps for 2018. We have 3 upcoming camps (1 day camps) featuring Billy Lewis and Danny McLarty and we couldn’t be more excited!!!
I guess being around the game as long as I have, I assume that everybody knows everybody and I also assume that everybody knows these 2 coaches. Since, I have found myself telling parents who Billy and Danny are in the last few days, I guess I can’t assume everyone knows them anymore.
Just to age myself, I played college basketball with Danny McLarty at Rock Valley College and recruited Billy Lewis to Rock Valley College before he ended up having a terrific career at Rockford University. When it comes to teachers of the game and role models, these guys are at the top of the list and I look forward to assisting them throughout the camps.
Coach Jason Warner
Billy played at Hononegah and Rockford College for four years, where team he won two conference championships and was tenth in Division III with 89% FT in 2002-03 season. He was co-captain for 2002-03 team with a school record of 24 wins and was inducted into the Rockford College athletic hall of fame in 2016. Billy has seven years of high school coaching experience, with three of them as the head coach of Stillman Valley boys’ basketball. He co-founded Aim High Hoops in 2009, which has produced three skill development DVDs and trained hundreds of players through shooting, handling, and scoring clinics.
Danny McLarty is a Fitness Coach and a Basketball Skills Coach. He trains people out of his gym, MVP Training, in Roscoe, Illinois He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Planned Periodization Specialist (PPS through Tudor Bompa). Danny feels that “there is no ‘magic trick’ to improving your body; train, eat, sleep, and repeat. Those that are consistent, disciplined, and give everything they have, can bring their health, physique, and performance to a new level.” Danny earned a place in the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007 for his high school (Hononegah High School) and college career (Rock Valley Junior College and the University of Nebraska @ Omaha). He was also named the NIC-9 MVP and the NJ4C Conference MVP. He accomplished this while standing at a height of 5′7″. Danny’s basketball lessons are set up to help players improve their ability to get open, with and without the ball.
